How to choose a paraglider
The perfect choice for each pilot depends on many factors. Whether you are a new pilot or experienced, there is no single wing that is best. Each has pros and cons. The key is figuring out what is important for you. Calling in is the best way to sort it all out. We have more experience placing more pilots on more wings than anyone in the industry. Manufacturer's specs and descriptions provide only part of the story. We have flown these wings, and instructed students on many. By analyzing your physical characterists, home climate, and even your personality, we can help you make the choice that's right for you.

Experience Level
Paragliders vary in the level of experience required to safely fly them. Some gliders offer a range of levels and for the right pilot, these wings can provide an opportunity to progress to a higher level of experience over the course of ownership. Reflex or Traditional
The reflex wings have been around since the beginning, but only recently have they become practical. Reflex wings are faster and more resistant to collapses at high speeds, but can be more difficult to ground handle. For more about Reflex wings, see the Wing Guide. |

Certification of Paragliders
Purchasing a certified paraglider versus an uncertified wing is an important consideration for your safety. Certification not only tests flight characterists such as recovery from collapses, but also tests manufacturing quality by load testing the wing to destruction.
Certified wings cost more, so if you are willing to fly without this extra assurance of safety, then an uncertified wing is a better deal, but don't tell your wife and consider buying a reserve. If you are considering an uncertified paraglider, research the manufacturer's track record: who are they, what are their qualifications, and what wings have they designed? |

Used Wings and Inspection
New wings should be inspected after the first 2 years and annually every year there after. Don't buy a used wing without having it inspected. Rising Air is one of several qualified and reputable inspection and repair service centers. 208-554-2243. Ask for Bill. Rising Air is one of the few inspection services that does not sell wings. That means that there is no potential for conflict of interest if the happen to tell you that the used wing you are considering failed inspection. |
